A Prince's Tale

... And yes, I've finished reading the book. So if you don't want spoilers, don't read this post.
Dreamt about Harry Potter book 7 ending last night [Guess I was too excited, heh?], and it's really lame!! Apparently in my dream, in the last chapter J.K. Rowling had this author's note, where she stated, in Chinese! all the evidence proving that Snape is bad [which made me moan and cry], and then in the last line, she wrote，‘可是他其實是一個大好人’。Like dots!
Maybe because of the dream, coupled with mounting excitement, I woke up at around 8.30 to go online. And blimey, it was a BADDDD idea! Since Britain released the book earlier than we did, I chanced upon many spoilers. And after that, I couldn't resist the temptation to read more! I even looked at some photos of pages of the book [taken by some bored people I believe], that were circulating the web. By 9.30, I knew exactly who would die and in which chapter; in fact the whole plot [a rather lengthy one, I say] was up on wikipedia, so can you imagine! Me, tearing and screaming [silently] to my computer screen, extremely stricken by Snape's death, even though I had long resigned to the fact that he WOULD die. When I finally got my hands on the books from Toh Payoh Popular and sat down in Burger King to read the book with Yihui, the spoilers were proven true. Oh wells. At least I was right about many things. [I must be a seer! XD]
Like Snape's Dumbledore's man. Snape loved Lily. Snape was the guy Petunia overheard telling Lily about Azkaban and Dementors. Dumbledore wanted Snape to kill him. Dumbledore trusted Snape and Snape switched sides because Snape felt remorseful about Lily's death. That's the reason why Snape never ever spoke to Harry about his mum. Snape's worst memory involved Snape calling Lily she a mudblood [and never again did he call anyone a mudblood, even forbidding Phineas to say the word], which explains why the memory was his worst. Snape protected Harry out of love for Lily. Snape saw Lily in Harry's eyes. Snape's last words were, 'Look at me..' or something to that effect. Then after that J.K. Rowling wrote something along the lines of 'the green eyes met the black eyes', before poor Snape finally died.
But Snape died for nothing, seriously. I'm astonished to learn that Snape became a headmaster of the school. Snape loved Lily since they were kids? That's earlier than I thought. [I was suspecting the infatuation started from Potions classes.. Or Slughorn's Club (Fanfics hooray!).. Oh nevermind.] And wait! Snape patronus ain't what some people had guess, it's actually a doe -> Lily! After all those years.. (!!) Even Dumbledore was touched by Snape's everlasting love for Lily. Gawdd. I cried when I heard the spoilers. And nothing could prevent me from crying again after reading and rereading The Prince's Tale. Snape's end is tragic. Pleasantly surprised though I was, to find out that Harry named one of their kids [the only one with green eyes!] Albus Severus, and told the boy Snape was the bravest man he had ever known. The irony is not lost on me.. In Half-Blood Prince, didn't Harry call him a coward?
Annoying bits: It is boring in the middle. Seriously. And I HATE how Percy came crawling back, and how there are deaths every few pages or so. Really, some people don't deserve to die. Like Snape. Like Dobby. Like Wormtail. Well at least Dobby died saving Harry, Wormtail's hestitation cost his life but saved others, however I can never understand why Snape has to die like that.
He died with the belief, and possibly in regret, that for all his trouble, he was still sending Potter to his grave. His last words.. The letter.. Okay I should stop before I start bawling my eyes out over him again.
Even though I really want to say, 'So I was right all along! Knew it!' in triumph, my anguish over Snape, Lupin and Tonk's death is too much to bear. [I have this love-hate thing with unrequited love. It's tragic, but I still like it.]
I trust Severus Snape. I love Severus Snape. I am a Snape/Lily shipper. I'm a Snape's man through and through. Now, I am certain that I have not trusted/loved/shipped the wrong man. (:
It's that familiar path again. Only this time, Snape's walking the path to the Land of the Dead. Doubt he'll return, I'm sure he gets more comfort there, with Lily and all, than in the real world, where life was cruel for him, more than anyone else. Like Harry and Tom Riddle, he called Hogwarts home. I can imagine how memories of Lily haunted him, and Harry being a living reminder of what could have been - if only he didn't mix around with the wrong crowd, and if he didn't say the word to her. Unrequited love. I am touched by the young Sev, how he slept outside the Gryffindor dormitory just to plead for her forgiveness. Snape is a good man. A tortured man.

I am waiting to see more Snape/Lily fanfics! In fact, there are quite a number that rather accurately predicted the events in Deathly Hallows. For example, Snape being the 'nasty boy' Petunia mentioned in the Order of the Phoenix, the friendship ending after Snape called Lily 'mudblood' in Snape's Worst Memory, and Snape joining Dumbledore's side after knowing that the Potters were targeted by Voldemort [prophecy!]. That's why, I love Potter forums. It's always nice to go in there, when you have nothing better to do. But as the series draw to a close, maybe I should move on.
